Trump amenaza con altos aranceles y el fin del comercio con México si no cierra la frontera

El expresidente estadounidense y candidato republicano para las elecciones de 2024, Donald Trump, amenazó con terminar las relaciones comerciales con México e imponer altísimos aranceles a la nación.

En un discurso de campaña este martes en la ciudad de Howell (Míchigan), Trump aseguró que el país vecino estaba tomando ventaja de Estados Unidos y lo acusó de quitarle el 32 % de la industria automotriz por "muchos años". Dijo además que México estaba construyendo una de las plantas automotrices más grandes del mundo en asocio con China, con el propósito de fabricar coches e introducirlos en el mercado estadounidense "sin pagar impuestos".

"Eso no va a pasar; pondremos un arancel de 100 % a 200 %. No vamos a permitir que eso pase", aseveró, enfatizando que una situación como esa no hubiera pasado si él fuera el presidente.

El republicano también se refirió a México abordando el tema de la delincuencia en EE.UU., haciendo hincapié en la necesidad de cerrar la frontera sur e impedir el paso de migrantes. En este contexto, criticó a la vicepresidenta, Kamala Harris, por no haber tomado la decisión de cerrar la frontera y enviarlos de vuelta a sus países. "[Kamala] le pudo haber dicho a México: 'si no lo hacen, no vamos a comerciar, no haremos tratos con ustedes'", dijo.

Trump afirmó que el Gobierno mexicano le había hecho una presunta petición a Washington de 2.000 millones de dólares para entablar conversaciones alrededor del tema fronterizo.

"México se está aprovechando realmente de nuestro país. Quieren miles de millones de dólares solo para hablar. No dirían eso conmigo. Querían, creo, 2.000 millones para hablar. Eso no pasaría conmigo. Yo diría: '¿en serio?, pues es el fin del comercio con México", manifestó.

La semana pasada, el exmandatario ya se había referido a la posibilidad de aplicar aranceles adicionales a otros países, y alegó que México producía coches al otro lado de la frontera estadounidense. "Piensan que van a fabricar coches sin pagar impuestos y que los van a vender en Estados Unidos", sostuvo, asegurando que no será así durante su mandato.
