El presidente de EE.UU., Donald Trump, anunció el sábado que ordenó ataques aéreos contra objetivos en Somalia donde se encontraban terroristas del Estado Islámico (EI)*.

Los medios señalan que se trata de la primera gran operación militar estadounidense en el extranjero desde que Trump asumió el cargo.

"Esta mañana he ordenado ataques aéreos militares de precisión contra el principal planificador de atentados del EI y otros terroristas que reclutó y dirigió en Somalia", escribió el presidente en su red social Truth Social. "Estos asesinos, que encontramos escondidos en cuevas, amenazaban a EE.UU. y a nuestros aliados", agregó.

El mandatario también indicó que no hubo víctimas civiles. "Los ataques destruyeron las cuevas en las que vivían y mataron a muchos terroristas sin perjudicar en modo alguno a los civiles", dijo.

Asimismo, criticó al Gobierno de su predecesor, Joe Biden, por inacción. "Nuestras Fuerzas Armadas han apuntado a este planificador de ataques del EI durante años, pero Biden y sus compinches no actuaron con la suficiente rapidez para hacer el trabajo. ¡Yo lo hice!", manifestó. "El mensaje al EI y a todos los demás que ataquen a los estadounidenses es que '¡los encontraremos y los mataremos!'", concluyó Trump.

Los ataques fueron llevados a cabo por aviones de combate de la Armada y de la Fuerza Aérea, incluidos cazas F/A-18 del portaaviones Harry S. Truman, que opera en el mar Rojo, según informó The New York Times, citando a tres funcionarios del Departamento de Defensa.
