El presidente de la República Democrática del Congo (RDC), Félix Tshisekedi, propuso a su homólogo estadounidense, Donald Trump, el a minerales clave para las empresas tecnológicas a cambio de asistencia militar en la lucha contra el grupo rebelde Movimiento 23 de Marzo (M23), recoge The Wall Street Journal.

Según el periódico, el mandatario congoleño envió una carta a Trump el 8 de febrero, en la que ofrece oportunidades mineras para el fondo soberano de EE.UU. que había ordenado crear unos días antes.

Una portavoz de Tshisekedi confirmó la autenticidad de la carta, señalando que es de "interés común que empresas estadounidenses, como Apple y Tesla, compren minerales directamente de la RDC" y utilicen su riqueza mineral "en beneficio del mundo".

Funcionarios locales y occidentales entrevistados por el periódico indicaron que la oferta coincide con las negociaciones de Tshisekedi con Erik Prince, fundador de la empresa militar Blackwater. Si las conversaciones tienen éxito, Prince ayudaría al Gobierno congoleño a "recaudar y asegurar los impuestos de las operaciones mineras", agregaron.
