Desde 2012 el gigante asiático ha conseguido desdesertificar alrededor de 4,3 millones de hectáreas, lo que equivale más o menos a la superficie de Dinamarca.

China avanza con su plan para luchar contra la desertificación, convirtiendo suelos estériles en bosques y pastizales en las áreas de los desiertos del Gobi y el Taklamakán, en el norte y el noroeste del país respectivamente.

Así, desde 2012 el gigante asiático ha logrado desdesertificar alrededor de 4,3 millones de hectáreas, lo que equivale aproximadamente a la superficie de Dinamarca.

En las redes sociales circulaba recientemente un video en el que se pueden ver los avances de la llamada 'gran muralla verde' china, considerado uno de los mayores proyectos ambientales del mundo. Al respecto, el magnate Elon Musk escribió: "Es verdad".

Un ambicioso proyecto que ya dio resultados

A fines de noviembre pasado, China logró un hito importante al terminar la plantación de un cinturón verde de bloqueo de arena de 3.046 km de largo alrededor del desierto de Taklamakán, el más grande del país.

El cerco verde está compuesto por árboles y arbustos, así como por una tecnología de bloqueo de arena basada en la energía solar. El Taklamakán, conocido como el 'mar de la Muerte' y ubicado en la región autónoma de Sinkiang, es el segundo desierto de dunas más grande del mundo.

El bloqueo es parte del Programa Forestal de los Tres Cinturones de Protección del Norte de China, el programa de forestación de más envergadura del mundo para combatir la desertificación, que se inició en 1978 y está previsto que se complete en 2050.
