EE.UU. impondrá costosas multas a migrantes irregulares que no se autodeporten

El Gobierno de EE.UU. planea multar con casi 1.000 dólares diarios a los migrantes irregulares sobre los que pese una orden de deportación si optan por no abandonar el país, informó este martes a Fox News la subsecretaria del Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS), Tricia McLaughlin.

"Los extranjeros indocumentados deben usar la aplicación 'CBP Home' para autodeportarse y salir del país ahora. Si no lo hacen, enfrentarán las consecuencias", dijo la alta funcionaria. "Esto incluye una multa de 998 dólares por día por cada día que el extranjero indocumentado sobrepase el plazo de su orden final de deportación", puntualizó.

La medida se basa en una ley de 1996 que no se aplica desde el primer mandato del presidente Donald Trump y contempla la posibilidad de aplicar sanciones retroactivas hasta por un lapso de cinco años, según detalló un alto cargo de la istración a la agencia Reuters.

"Beneficios" y advertencias

De acuerdo con un informe al que tuvo Fox News, las autoridades también podrían confiscar las propiedades de los migrantes irregulares que no se autodeporten a través de la aplicación 'CBP Home'.

En el folleto se afirma que "la autodeportación es segura", se insta a las personas a marcharse "en sus propios términos eligiendo su vuelo de salida" y se les ofrece la garantía de conservar su dinero y mantenerse elegibles tanto para regularizar su situación migratoria en el futuro como para acceder a un vuelo subsidiado.

Por contra, en cuanto a las "consecuencias", se les advierte que serán "detenidos por el DHS sin oportunidad de ordenar sus asuntos de antemano", que podrían recibir multas, incluida una de entre 1.000 y 5.000 dólares si no se autodeportan, tras haber dicho que lo harían.

"Si no se autodeporta, puede ser objeto de penas de prisión", se lee en el texto, en el que también se especifica que a los migrantes irregulares se les prohibirá "reingresar de nuevo a EE.UU. a través del sistema de inmigración legal".
