Keir Starmer anunció que el Gobierno adoptará una postura de la "OTAN primero", que será la "parte fundamental" de la fuerza estratégica.

El primer ministro británico, Keir Starmer, aseguró este lunes que el Reino Unido, en el marco de una nueva estrategia de defensa, se prepara para una posible guerra.

"Estamos pasando a la preparación bélica como objetivo central de nuestras Fuerzas Armadas. Cuando nos amenazan directamente Estados con fuerzas militares avanzadas, la forma más eficaz de disuadirles es estar preparados", dijo durante una visita a las instalaciones de la compañía BAE Systems en Govan, (Glasgow, Escocia). Agregó también que Londres "cuenta con los mejores militares del mundo".

Según el mandatario, en el país se establecerá "una fuerza de combate más integrada, más preparada y más letal que nunca, respaldada por una reserva estratégica más fuerte, plenamente entrenada y lista para movilizarse en cualquier momento".

Además, anunció que el Gobierno adoptará una postura de la "OTAN primero", que será la "parte fundamental" de la fuerza estratégica.

"La transformación que estamos impulsando en nuestra defensa debe sumarse a la mayor contribución británica a la OTAN desde su creación, de modo que, cuando estemos creando nuevas capacidades en casa, estemos haciendo que nuestros aliados estén también más seguros, fortaleciendo Europa y reforzando nuestro puente con EE.UU. como primer socio en defensa", señaló.
