Trump arremete contra Alemania tras las dudas de Merkel sobre el apoyo de EE.UU. a Europa

El presidente de Estados Unidos ha publicado este martes un nuevo tuit en el que reacciona a las declaraciones de Angela Merkel sobre el cuestionable apoyo de Washington a Europa.

"Tenemos un déficit comercial masivo con Alemania y, además, [los alemanes] pagan mucho menos de lo que deberían a la OTAN y en gastos militares. Eso es muy malo para EE.UU. Esto cambiará", ha tuiteado este martes el presidente de EE.UU., Donald Trump.

El mandatario estadounidense ha publicado este mensaje poco después de que la canciller alemana diera a entender que no está para nada satisfecha con los resultados de la cumbre del G7 celebrada la semana pasada, en particular con la actitud de Trump respecto al cambio climático. Asimismo, hizo referencia a que los europeos ya no pueden contar con sus tradicionales aliados, EE.UU. y Reino Unido.

Además de la canciller, otras voces del Gobierno alemán han criticado en los últimos días al mandatario norteamericano. El ministro de Exteriores, Sigmar Gabriel, declaró este lunes que las acciones de Trump habían "debilitado" a Occidente y que las políticas "cortas de miras" de su istración perjudican a los intereses de la Unión Europea.

El presidente de EE.UU. no pasó por alto uno de sus temas recurrentes: las "noticias falsas", y en otro mensaje publicado el mismo martes se refirió a las acusaciones dirigidas por la excandidata demócrata Hillary Clinton y otros políticos contra Moscú por interferir en las pasadas presidenciales.

"Los funcionarios rusos deben de estar riéndose" de Estados Unidos al ver cómo "una pobre excusa" para justificar por qué los demócratas perdieron las elecciones "se ha apoderado de las noticias falsas", comentó Trump.

Además, en un tuit anterior Trump escribió que "muchos países de la OTAN se han puesto de acuerdo en aumentar los pagos considerablemente", tal y como "deberían hacer", lo que hará que la OTAN sea "mucho más fuerte" ahora que "el dinero está empezando a llegar".

En cuanto a los gastos militares, el presidente estadounidense respalda los esfuerzos dirigidos a conseguir que los países miembro del bloque destinen al menos el 2% de su PIB en Defensa, informa la agencia AP. De momento, solo cinco países cumplen con el objetivo, mientras que las otras naciones se han comprometido a alcanzarlo para 2024.
